What is a cyanotype?

"
Well it's is an almost 180 year old early alternative photographic process which I use to produce botanical prints of some of my favourite plants.  I use a mixture of cyanide and iron compounds  to create a photosensitive paint.
Its tell-tale characteristic is the heavenly blue colour—a result of a chemical reaction when exposed to Northern Irish sunshine.

As a consequence , every print is unique.."

The ethereal blue tones evoke feelings and nostalgia and serenity – a oneness with our surroundings.

Just as a memory is a dreamlike recollection of a time or place, these prints are an almost transformative representation of their former being.
